A PIECE OF PURPOSE
THE KAYAKS
Paddling for a Purpose intends to leave a legacy through fundraising efforts that will include a post-trip celebration and auction. Following the 2500-mile kayak that will take Hector from northern Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico, he and his family plan to host a celebration for all friends and family who have participated in his adventure. During this celebration, they will auction off their fleet of kayaks.
Throughout the trip, each kayak will develop its own unique personality. Several state-of-the-art, high quality kayaks will carry individuals down the Mississippi River, marking a significant passage and promoting the mission of Paddling for a Purpose. Hector has affectionately dubbed these kayaks “The Armada” – a fleet of small watercraft that Hector and his family depend upon in order to help him reach his goal.
Imagine owning a piece of history! Bidding on a kayak means investing in the mission of Paddling for a Purpose. Get to know The Armada – hear stories about each boat and the unique experiences Hector and his team will have on each member of the fleet.

1 of 2 \ Kayak Names
Naming a kayak is like naming a baby. I have zero experience in both…so I do not know what to name my new kayak. It is a 15.5 foot Zephir made by Wilderness Systems. It is a mango/peach color and it is quite different than the ones I already have. It is a sit-in kayak while the other ones are sit-on-top.
I am very excited to start training on this one. I got a new paddle also.My goal is to make a few 20 mile trips around the Bay and get used to it in the next few weeks. We are less than two months away so time is running out.
One of the names suggested for my new kayak is banana hammock…I am not sure how I feel about it. I am looking for more exotic or spanish names. My kayaks are called The Armada, which is the spanish word for fleet, so the names have to fit.
Also do not forget that after I finish with this trip I will most likely not want to see a kayak for a while. I had the idea of auctioning of my kayaks at the end. I am still planning on doing that. All the money again will go to charity. I think it will be hard to get rid of my "baby" but it is all for charity.
I have been currently doing the math on the mileage of the river and it is alot. The numbers kept getting higher and higher so I gave up counting. I look forward to every mile. I look forward to stopping in small towns along the way.
I will be posting video and pictures of my new kayak in the coming week. If you can think of a good name, let me know here or on my facebook page for the event.
Have A Great Day Everyone.
